Absence from School
If your child is going to be absent from school because of illness, medical appointments, etc. please notify the school office as soon as possible. An answering machine is available out of office hours.
Appointments should be made for after school or holidays wherever possible.
If the school feels that the reason for absence is inappropriate, e.g. taking a child shopping, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence. By law the school has to report serious cases of absence to the Educational Social Worker and specifically any case where absence falls below 80%. It is expected that children attend school at least 95% of the school year.
The best time to take family holidays or extended visits is during the school’s holiday periods. Long periods of absence from school can seriously affect your child’s progress. Any request for a longer period of absence should be made in writing on the form available from the office and given to the headteacher. If a return date is not given or if the return date passes with no information from the family, the child’s name may be taken off the school roll with no guarantee of readmission.
